Russian Postgenome Association (RHUPO)

In response to the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, EuPA has taken two distinct actions.

First, as many of us in EuPA and elsewhere are scrambling to render personal and/or professional aid in one form or the other to citizens in Ukraine, and to the millions of Ukrainian refugees, EuPA is working through community-driven efforts to support initiatives that bring relief to researchers in need.

Second, EuPA’s Executive Committee (EC) put forward a vote to the General Council (GC) concerning the possible suspension of the vote of the Russian Postgenome Association (RHUPO) in the EuPA GC while this devastating conflict rages.

After discussions within the different member societies and resulting voting by these member societies, the clear outcome was to suspend the vote of RHUPO in the EuPA GC, effective from Thursday 18 March 2022, and until the situation is resolved.

Importantly, the EuPA EC and GC have carefully taken into account the principles of the universality of science (https://council.science/5-universality-of-science), which we embrace. It is therefore key to note that our colleagues in Russia will maintain their individual positions and roles within EuPA, will continue to have full access to our documents, including all GC documentation, and will continue to be invited to GC meetings and other EuPA events. They will thus remain fully informed and able to communicate with EuPA at every level as individuals. Indeed, as a European scientific organization, with engagement, inclusivity, and transparency at our core, we do not condone any actions by anyone against individual researchers simply because of their country of origin or residence.
